Brentwood Open Competition - 2009

27th September 2009

27th September saw a large contingent of eager Cambridge Cangaroos trampolinists travel to Brentwood for the first competition of the new season.

We had 19 entries but a few had to withdraw at the last minute, leaving us with 15 bouncers on the day.

The fields in all categories were large, so congratulations to all our bouncers for their efforts, especially to those that were taking part in their first ever competition.

The morning saw the majority of our competitors take part. In the Club H & I under 9 boys and girls, James Able continued his medal winning form with two well performed routines, bringing a total score of 40.9 and 3rd place. In the Club H & I under 13 boys and girls Rebecca Alexander and Jessica Henry both performed excellently. Rebecca in her first competition managed a score of 42.0 and took 5th place. Jessica was just outside the medals in 4th pace with a total score of 43.3. In the Club H & I under 17 boys and girls, we had three girls taking part in their first ever competition. Nerves played a part and after problems in their first routines by all three girls, the scores and subsequent places reflected the problems. Harriet Rae scored a total of 9.8 and came 14th, Bethany Latham scored a total of 32.4 and came 13th and Ellie Sayer scored a total of 35.2 and came 11th. The team did however take the silver medal, which is a compensation for their efforts.

In the Regional G under 9 & 11 Girls, Trinity Kelly had two very good routines, resulting in a total score of 44.9 and 2nd place. Hopefully by the time the grading takes place in two weeks time, we can improve that score by 0.1 or greater to ensure qualification. In the Regional G under 13 Girls, Grace Pike was delighted to score consistently and register a total score of 42.7 and place 14th out of a field of 22. In the Regional G under 13 boys, Matthew Burson delivered two consistent routines but was just outside the medals in 5th place with a total score of 42.0. In the Regional G, H & I over 17, boys and girls, (the last competition of the day), one of our coaches, Fiona Hill was taking part, this is just her 2nd ever competition and she wanted to gain more experience of the competition activity so she can provide more help and experience to her performers. Fiona successfully completed both routines with good form and managed a very respectable score of 40.5, which put her in 6th position. In her first competition Anna Dawson, bouncing with her coach, also completed two good routines and scored a total of 40.9 and just missed the medals, with a 4th place.

In the Regional F under 15 boys & girls our two competitors did really well. Frances Pickup with two consistent routines came 6th with a score of 45.2. Naomi Waldock who was severely under the weather and on anti-biotics did really well to come 3rd, with a score of 46.8, missing 1st place by just 0.2.

Our two final competitors were Michael Keelin and Imogen Pickup, both bouncing in the Regional E over 17 boys and girls. Michael struggled with both routines and came 14th with a score of 37.2. Imogen did well, scoring 46.0 and placing 9th.

As usual our thanks go out to the family and friends of bouncers who attended to support the members and also to our officials and coaches who also attended on the day to assist the club and performers and also the competition organisers.

It’s just 2 weeks to the next competition, the Grading at Easton Sports Centre, Norwich, where hopefully we can repeat the successes and improve with some more medals and some qualifications to the next levels.
