On Sunday 23rd September over 170 trampolinists competed at the 3rd Cangaroos Open at Sawston Sports centre in Cambridge. The largest two entries came from the two Cambridge Trampoline Clubs, Comberton Tiggers, Based at Comberton School and Cambridge Cangaroos, who train at Sawston and Netherhall schools.

A full results sheet is attached but highlights of the results are as follows:
In the “starters” group, which is for our under 7 trampolinists who have just started the sport, the winner was Rebecca Reed from Loughton Flyers, Cangaroos team of Sydney Kelly, Alexa Hanson, Charlotte Allen and George Allen all did extremely well, with Sydney just missing out on the 3rd place medal

In the beginners group, this was won Meghan Donaghy from Lougon Flyers, with a team from Tiggers competing well

The Grade 6 competition was heavily contested as always, with it split into age groups of under 11, under 13, under 15, under 17 and over 17, but of mixed gender (boys competed against girls): In the Under 11’s Rebecca Sebley of Tiggers was victorious. In the under 13’s Holly Maughan and Lauren Hilton-Taylor from Tiggers came 2nd and 3rd respectively. In the Under 15’s Chloe Haynes of Tigers came first with Joanna Stanley of Tiggers in 2nd. In the grade 4 over 15 females, Izzy Thomson of Tiggers was 1st, and after a countback, Helen Moss of Canagroos was 2nd and Kerry Sayer also of Cangaroos was 3rd. In the grade 3 under 15, Katie-Beth McKenna of Tiggers was 1st with Sophia Berry also of Tigers in 3rd.

There were 26 teams competing during the day and the top 3 results were a battle between the two Cambridge clubs again, with the hosts Cangaroos taking the coveted first place. The winning teams were as follows: In 1st place under 15 grade 4 male cangaroos team of: Max Fagelman, Michael Keelin and Joe Chandler. In 2nd place the Grade 4 under 11 female team from Tiggers of Tate Tucker, Jordan Winter and Katie Reynolds and in 3rd place from Tiggers, the grade 6 under 15 female team of Sophie Rudkin, Chloe Haynes and Joanna Stanley.

Other competitions that took place that day included the Trampoline Synchro event, this is where two trampolinists bounce together to try to produce mirror images of each other whilst performing the same routine on different trampolines. In the intermediate competition the winning pair were Tate Tucker and Katie Reynolds from Tiggers and Helen Moss and Imogen Pickup from Cangaroos were 3rd. The less said about the Cangaroos head coaches effort with his partner in this event the better!

The competition also hosted its first ever Double Mini Tramp event and with 10 entries the victorious winners were in 1st place Laura Shapiro, in 2nd place, Michael Keelin and in 3rd place Imogen Pickup. A clean sweep for Cangaroos.

Cangaroos also hosted its own closed event within the competition, with the scores being calculated on just the execution marks of the performers. It was all very close for the top 4 positions with Joe Chandler just piping Max Fagelman to 3rd and Michael Keelin just losing out to Sophie Housden. So our Club champion for 2007/08 is Sophie Housden. The club also award prizes to the most improved performers in the club. In the “Roos” our under 7 section, Trinity Kelly was adjudged by the coaches to be the winner and in the Cangaroos section it was awarded to Max Fagelman.

The club makes one final award, agreed by the committee; this is given to the person who has made the greatest contribution to the club in the past 12 months. This year we are delighted to make this award to Laura Shapiro. She has been a superb organiser for the club and this award is to recognise that.
