What started out as quite a good entry for the competition was reduced by the approaching GCSE exams, with 5 of our elite bouncers all pulling out due to examinations in the next day or so. We still took 11 competitors and what a fantastic day it turned out to be for virtually every member.
We started the day with the Club J under 13 boys competition, James Able competing in only his 2nd competition delivered 2 good routines and was delighted to take 2nd place with a score of 40.5. (That gives James a 1st and 2nd in two attempts). In the Club K under 13 girls competition, Sydney Kelly at just 6 years old pulled out two magnificent routines and from a very large field came 1st with a total score of 45.4.
That put the pressure on her older sister Trinity (age 8), competing in the Regional G under 13 girls along with girls many years older. Trinity was competing alongside her two team mates, Grace Pike and Daniella Stevenson. Daniella scored 41.6 and took 10th place, Grace did well and scored 42.8 for 6th place, but best of all Trinity scored 43.9 and took 3rd place, missing 1st place by just 0.2. Together, the girls took 1st place in the team competition.
In the Regional G under 13 Boys, Matthew Burson would have easily won the competition had he not touched the mat on his last bounce. So he had to settle for 3rd place with a score of 40.8.
In the Regional E competition, Laura Able, one of our senior coaches was bouncing under orders from her son. She managed an excellent 46.7 score which placed her just outside the medals in a tight competition in 4th place.
In the Club I under 13 girls Jess Henry, competing in her first ever competition delighted everyone and herself to finish with a score of 45.1 and in 1st place from a huge field of over 20 competitors. She has now qualified up to Club H grade for the next competition.
In the Regional F under 15 girls, Naomi Waldock continued her excellent season with a score of 48.5 and 2nd place. Had it been a Grading competition, she would have qualified to the E grade.
Our final entries of the day were Jarek Bihun and Tony Fagelman in the Regional D over 15 Mens competition. Jarek has only just moved to the UK from Poland, so this was going to be an interesting competition for him. Tony, our Head Coach, was bouncing again for the 2nd time this season. After round 1, to everyone’s surprise Tony was in the lead, however, he couldn’t maintain the effort and went wrong on his final move of the 2nd routine meaning he had to settle for 4th place. Jarek meanwhile had done two consistent routines and managed to take 2nd place with a total score of 49.1, hopefully this is a sign of things to come for Jarek and we have high hopes.
Following the individual events there was a Synchronised competition, a standard event for team pairs and a ‘Russian Roulette’ style competition, where all entries names were put into a hat and pairs were drawn. In the standard Synchro event, we had two entries, Grace Pike and Daniella Stephenson and Trinity Kelly and Naomi Waldock. Both pairs had only started practicing the day before, so neither were expected to medal. But two consistent routines with excellent synchronisation saw Grace and Daniella come 3rd. Trinity and Naomi produced 2 good routines. In the Russian Roulette, our entries saw Grace paired with the regions top ladies performer, unfortunately, they didn’t manage to complete the first routine but did well in the 2nd routine.
So with just 11 entries, we came away with 7 individual trophies, one team trophy and one synchro trophy, a fantastic return for a great day out in Norwich.
