The Brentwood Open 2012 was the first competition of the regional season. Ultimately 9 Cangaroos went down to Brentwood to get some valuable practice ahead of the Easton Grading in October. With three trophies and including a first time competition for Joel it was an intense day.

First on was Byron in Over 15 Boys Regional F, who was looking to build on his success at the Fenland Flyers Open before summer. Despite producing the highest scoring voluntary routine of his group, a small slip in his Set routine saw his chances of a podium position taken away as he finished in 5th place.

Following Byron on the same panel was Zach in the Under 15 Boys Regional F. Zach had been training hard the last few months ready for the new season in both the CRC classes and the development squad. Two consistent performances of low 7s was not enough to secure a podium position but a strong start to the season.

Daniella Stephenson was next up (again on the same panel) in the Under 15 Girls Regional F. She secured our first podium position with a strong Set routine and a blistering voluntary in the Under 15 Girls Regional F category and finished third.

It was finally time for the ever excitable and “high-flying Harry” to steal the limelight at Brentwood. After two more incredible routines in the Regional E group he finished in first place with a massive 48.6. This score was sufficient to secure him the much coveted Georgia Cordery Trophie for the highest junior form score for the day – massive well done! This marks Harry’s third win on the trot and we are hoping he will perform as well at Easton and move into grade D – one grade below the national circuit.

Harry was followed by the nearly as excitable Mila Feldman in the Under 13 Girls Regional G, who has also been stepping up the training this year and her two solid routines finished her in 7th place. Consistency will be her biggest challenge but we are confident she will perform well.

As we entered the afternoon it was time for Joel (Byron’s younger brother) to take to the competition beds for his first time in the Boys Club H group. A small blip in the Set lost him heavy marks but he regained his composure well and performed well in the Vol finishing 7th and we have high hopes for him in the months to come.

Charlie is always keen to compete and he showed us why with two great routines in the Under 15 Boys Regional G. The standard of competition is his group was fairly high and this meant he only achieved 7th place.

Our only national competitor competing today was Ali who was feeling pretty under the weather after attending a wedding the previous day. Thanks to Tammy (for bringing him) and Jane (for coaching him on the day) he was able to perform a good set routine and a complete voluntary to take first place in the Boys National C group.

The ever determined Grace was our last competitor in Under 15 Girls Regional E. Alas she did not hit the form we all knew she could and finished 10th. As always Grace kept the same cheeky grin that we know her for and with that the competition ended and we packed away ready for the Regional AGM.

All in all there was lots to take from today and we look forward to the Easton Grading on 14th October – good luck everyone!
