Dragons Open 2012

Date: Sunday 15th July 2012 at Easton College

Entries close: TBC

Entry ages: 4 years +

The Easton-based Dragons Trampoline Club hosted a fantastic friendly open competition with individual, synchro and roulette synchro competitions. Cangaroos hauled in an impressive 11 trophies, alongside several personal bests and first attempts at a synchro competition. The day ended with a fun roulette synchro competition which randomly assigns partners out of all entries, including pairings with a rather substantial height difference! Despite this we took first and fourth place with Grace Pike/Harry Mallows and Yasmin Snook/Georgina (Dragons) respectively. An excellent achievement for all those involved.

The morning started off with the individual competition and began well with a good start from our only 15+ E competitor, Andrew Aistrup, who placed first after his set routine. Unfortunately a lapse of memory in his voluntary routine cost him a tenth move and he finished in third place only 0.1 off second. Next up though was an impressive performance by Harry Mallows who placed first in the Under 15 E category with a final score of 49.1, just 0.4 from the D qualification score he seeks at the next regional grading. At the same time, the combined grade F group took to the panel. Daniella Stephenson competed at this grade for the first time since qualifying up from G and pulled out two of her best routines to date. She finished first but unfortunately her title was short lived as a late arrival took victory later in the day. Many congratulations for a respectable second place with a score of 45.9.

Continuing with this success, one of our newest members, Charlie Love took to the panel for his very first competition after a lot of hard work over recent months. Competing in the Under 15 G category, he safely completely two routines and placed second, a position he should be very proud of for his first ever competition. On the same panel, great performances were seen by all of our H competitors. Cangaroos stormed the Over 9 Girls group, securing all podium positions, as well as fourth place! Well done to Sydney Kelly (48.0), Katie Todman (45.9), Ella Schumann (45.6) and Felicity Lawrence (45.0) for such great performances. These scores also all exceed the guide qualifying score of 45 for them to move up to grade G. Our Under 9 Girl, Meghan Searle performed just as strongly with an impressive score of 45.9. Unfortunately she just missed out on first place by 0.7 despite scoring 22.9 for her set and voluntary routines with ease. Our female G competitors faced tough competition but also managed to complete their routines successfully. Congratulations to Isobel Grant who just missed out on a podium place in 4th with a score of 45.8 in the under 13 girls category, and to Emily Clifford who placed 10th with a score of 42.0.

All of our individual scores were extremely encouraging for future grading competitions; many proving their worth for higher level competition. Later in the day, our competitors took part in the H grade synchro competition. Cangaroos again stormed the competition, taking the first five places out of a total of seven pairs. A special mention must go to Sydney Kelly, who not only bounced incredibly well next to a much taller partner, but who also took both first (82.2) and second (81.6) place! Well done to Grace Pike and Isobel Grant respectively for such an excellent combined performance with Sydney. In third place were Felicity Lawrence and Ella Schumann (81.2), in fourth, Meghan Searle and Katie Todman (80.4) and in fifth, Yasmin and Anya Snook (51.1). Despite an impressive set routine from the Snook pair, a misplaced shape jump in the voluntary cost them a higher place. Well done to all for such impressive scores!

Many thanks go to Rachel Paul and the team at Dragons for organising such a well-run and enjoyable day, with delicious food and drink on offer for all of the officials. Thanks go to Cangaroos; Grace Pike, Nikki Grant and Helen Snook for kindly judging and officiating, as well as Francoise Lucas who stepped in to coach and support our competitors on the day. Kim Pearson also further enhanced her reputation as an exceptional marshal, controlling both Panels 1 and 2 throughout the day to tight time and with superb efficiency. Throughout the day (and in between competing), Andrew Aistrup also took the position of Chair of Judges for Panel 1. Well done to all the coaches, parents and competitors for their effort in bringing so much individual and group success to the club.
