The Fenland Flyers hosted a fantastic open competition in Wisbech. Cangaroos had a massive medal hall including 11 individual and 2 team medals. In between various visits to the impressive and nourishing cake stall, all our bouncers did exceptionally well. Especially those that had not bounced on a 4x4 until now due to their being no choice of trampolines on either panel.
The morning started off well with Abhi MacDonald, Jude and Sophia producing some great performances in grade K finishing 1st, 4th and 10th respectively. It was their first open competition against other clubs and we are so very proud of their results and look forward, with great anticipation to their future results.
Closely following them was Isobell Grant who nailed her G routines achieving a personal best overall score and finishing 2nd. She now aims to grade next season to F. Lexi Marlow performed well but small mistakes crept in and she finished 11th. Following the girls, was Harry Mallows who was keen to make amends for his recent blooper at the Hitchin Grading and he executed his routines brilliantly in the mixed E grade and finished 1st with a huge score and personal best of 49.7.
Alexander Gosling also hit success in the Under 11 Boys H, with two solid routines to earn 3rd place and add to the trophy hall – there was nothing that was going to take that beaming smile off his face.
Mixed fortunes in the Under 15 girls Club H; Mila Feldman set the pace with a storming score and personal best of 46.5 in her last competition at H, as she will compete in G next year. Her teammate Rachel Flack suffered a small blip in her routine and as a result she narrowly missed out on the podium finishing 4th. After eventually finding the College, Byron Bowden-Pitstock made quite the entrance by almost accidently walking into the wrong changing rooms – this however did not phase his competition at all, as he strode into 1st place with ease in the Under 20 Grade F category.
After lunch, Taranne who had been struggling with her routine this week was competing in grade D. After a few warm ups, she soon found her flow and executed her 3 routines to perfection to finish 1st and claim another podium spot for Cangaroos. We are certain Taranne will achieve qualification to the national circuit next season as our squad grows and we start to become a serious challenger on the national scene.
After Taranne, it became the turn of the C grade competitors Ali, Luis and Nat - who were using the competition as a warm up for nationals. After some stiff competition, all three pulled out great routines to line up for the final. In the interest of keeping the competition open and fair, they all agreed to reset their scores and compete in the final with no tariff. Doing this allowed the result to be judged entirely on form and gave all competitors a level playing field. Nat was able to claim 1st, Luis second, and Ali 4th. We look forward, with great anticipation to their routines in Birmingham for the National Finals.
Our penultimate competitors; Charlotte, Sarah, Hannah and Danae, were competing in the Under 13 girls club I and produced some good scores to finish 3rd, 6th, 7th and 11th. We cannot wait to see them next season, as they have shown so much promise this year.
Finally, it was Katie Todman, and after some solid routines she was able to claim our final trophy position, finishing 2nd in the Under 11 girls club H.
All in all, this was a great day for the Cangaroos and we look forward to the next competition in Birmingham which is the National Finals. Ali, Luis and Nat will be chasing the ultimate goal of securing a national podium spot. Lets hope they do it!
