A team of 20 members from Cambridge Cangaroos Trampoline Club traveled to Hitchin for the 2nd Regional Grading competition of the season. With no entries in the NPD or DMT competition this time, the club could concentrate on the Sunday competition for Individuals, teams and Synchronised events.
Our first competitor of the day was Jane Wilkey who was taking part in the R1C1 disability event. Jane performed excellently to not only come 2nd in the competition but also qualified for the National Finals, an excellent result. She followed that up later in the morning by repeating her silver medal winning performance by coming 2nd in the over 15. Ladies Club H competition. Congratulations to Jane for achieving National Qualification. Next up were our under 11 Boys Club H; Sollie Strydom-Green achieved an excellent 3rd place while Oliver Burrell came 6th. In the under 11 Girls Club H; Lizzie Chamberlain performed well to come 12th from a large field.
In the under 11 Boys Regional G, Abhi Macdonald-Marlow came 4th in a very tight competition, missing the bronze medal by just 0.1. In the under 11 Girls Regional G, Rhyannon Kinnley came 6th but was just 0.2 of qualifying for Regional F. It was agreed she would attempt re-validation (this provides an opportunity to competitors to perform a routine again in-front of a specially selected panel of judges to see if they can improve their marks). A successful attempt was made and Rhyannon achieved the qualifying score.
Gabriel Strydom-Green was next up in the under 13 Boys Regional F and followed up his recent qualification with a silver medal, but more importantly, he qualified up again, this time to Grade E, a fantastic result. Our two teams of under 13 Regional G girls were all next to compete. This was the largest competition of the day, with over 30 entries. Unfortunately, one of girls Danae Candoti had to drop out due to injury sustained in pre-competition practice, we wish her a speedy recovery. Meanwhile our Girls performed magnificently with the teams securing first and second place and 3 of our girls taking the top 4 spots. Aaliyah Kinnley had two excellent routines and scored a massive 46.9 taking 1st place and qualifying to Grade F. Megan Searle was 2nd with 45.8 and also qualified to Grade F and Felicity Lawrence was 4th, just 0.1 behind Megan, but lost the bronze on count-back, but more importantly, she also qualified to Grade F. Hannah Swinton came 10th, Scarlett East was 13th, Leacsidh Macdonald-Marlow was 15th and Sarah Hardwick was 15th.
In the under 13 Girls Regional E competition, Sydney Kelly was delighted with her 4th place as she had mixed fortunes in her routine execution. Looking for bigger and better things at the next competition.
Jordan Broda and Zach Goggin were next to compete in the under 15 Boys Regional D competition and after a swinging event, where Zach was leading Jordan after the 1st round, Jordan came back to pinch the 1st place after the 2nd round. So Jordan took Gold and Zach had to settle for 2nd place and the silver medal.
Last up in the individual competition was Alexa Hanson in the Under 15 Girls Regional G. Two good routines saw Alexa just miss the medal places, coming in a very respectable 4th.
The final competition of the day was the Synchro and our single pairing of Jordan Broda and Zach Goggin took Gold in the Boys Grade D synchro. So another excellent day for Cambridge Cangaroos Trampoline Club at a regional competition. We look forward to the 29th and 30th of March when Cangaroos will be co-hosting the next Grading with Cambridge University Trampoline Club at the new Cambridge University Sports Hall.
