The second ever regional championships saw the Cangaroos enter as defenders of their title. Despite several injuries and absentees it was safe to say that on this day we did ourselves proud. The morning started with great activity as Ali frantically began firing up the computers as Neil Pike was away today running a half marathon in London. Slowly but surely coaches, cakes and competitors surged through the doors of the Easton Village College sports centre as we got underway.
First up was the ever bubbly Jane who was competing in the Girls TPD group and despite a blip performed well to take 3rd place. Shortly after her was Scarlett, Holly and Lexi in Regional G who took 12th, 13th and 17th respectively. Shortly after another trio of stars known only as Rhyannon, Anya and Gemma stormed through their Regional G competition finishing 13th, 14th and 16th. We continue to be proud of our upcoming trampolinists and their dedication to competing has simply been overwhelming this past year.
Following them was Katie, who as well as competing recently passed her driving test – congratulations! She took 5th place in Regional F after a small mistake in her second routine. This meant it must be time for Gabe competing (after recently qualifying to) in Regional D. Gabe stormed his routines taking a proud 1st place with some good scores.
If one 1st place was not enough in Regional D Zach soon followed along with achieving qualification to National C – massive well done!
However, possibly the result of the day went to Abhi, who not only won his Regional G group but finished the day as the Regional Champion for his grade scoring the highest form score of the whole day for his level! Some say we love our teams of 3. The girls regional F was no exception as Meghan, Felicity and Yasmin all competed together finishing 5th, 6th and 9th.
Due to pure busyness of running the IT Ali substituted his spot with Luis who after only a couple of days practice was well on his way to cleaning the Easton Sports Hall roof. Two brilliantly high routines from him saw him take 3rd in National C.
Ashlea Bucke, then entered the draw in Regional E and took home 3rd place. Shortly after her Sydney performed some tight routines and took home 2nd place in Regional E.
Mila’s new D routine delivered some great form scores and she finished in 4th place narrowly missing a podium. Wrapping up the day was Lois with some consistently good scores to take 6th in Regional E.
So with the results all in we were sadly unable to retain our crown and finished 5th as a team overall. However, as a club we could not be more proud of the spirit and commitment that was shown from our bouncers, coaches, parents and committee and we now look forward to seeing how Matthew does in two weeks at the NPD Finals. Good luck!
