The final Trampoline League qualifier took place in Wigan on the weekend of 29th and 30th October. With most of the Cangaroo Gymnasts competing at this level already qualified for the League finals, just three of our members took part in the event
On the Saturday, it was Abhi Marlow-McDonalds chance to shine in the Men’s 11-12 League 3 event. With errors causing him to score zero ranking points this season, he knew he had to pull out a number of top quality routines just to make it to the finals. He didn’t disappoint. A superb first routine had him in 3rd place after round 1, with an improvement to 2nd place after the preliminary rounds. This secured 75 ranking points, a place in the day finals and more importantly qualification to the League finals. Job done. However, he went even better in the Final round and took his first gold medal of this season.
The Sunday saw Zach Goggin and James Able take to the competition floor in the Men’s 15-16 League 1 event. Zach was currently in 11th place in the National rankings with just the top 12 qualifying for the League finals, this was a chance to cement his place. James had already qualified for the League Finals in the League 2 event, but wanted to see if he could step up to the top level and qualify.
An excellent routine from James saw him in 3rd place after Round 1, with Zach in 6th place. The preliminary rounds ended with both James and Zach retaining the positions. This earned Zach 36 ranking points and consolidated his Finals qualification in 10th place. James secured a Finals qualification in 11th place with his 60 points from his 3rd place. The day’s finals saw Zach move up to 5th place but an error from James saw him drop to 7th place.
So, an extremely satisfying weekend competition meant that ALL Cangaroos gymnasts had successfully made it through to the League Finals in November, which this year will be held at the Olympic Velodrome on Queen Elizabeth Park, London.
We look forward to seeing the following gymnasts compete for Cangaroos at the event:
With James Able who trains with us also qualifying and competing in League 1 – Mens 15-16
Our thanks as ever go out to our officials and coaches who supported the gymnast’s entries and stayed all weekend to perform their official duties.
