Five of our gymnasts made their way to Sheffield on 13th October to prepare and compete in the 1st English Championships, being held at the English Institute of Sport. This competition boasted some of the very best trampoline gymnasts in Europe in their age-groups competing for the right to be crowned English Champion in Trampoline, DMT and Tumbling.
The events consisted of Gold and Silver levels, with each level being determined by the difficulty of the routine requirements. Gymnasts had previously qualified through two events, and had to achieve qualifying scores and achieving the top 16 in ranking places following the two qualifying events.
Friday evening was set aside for orientation and our gymnasts got the opportunity to test out the competition equipment during Podium training.
First up on the Saturday morning was Sydney Kelly, competing in the Ladies 14-15 Silver individual trampoline event. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be Sydney's day and following mistakes in both rounds she ended the competition in 10 place.
In the first event of the afternoon our youngest entries Gabriel Strydom-Green and Abhi Marlow-McDonald took to the competition floor to compete in the Men's under 15 Gold synchronised trampoline event. Some excellent synchro in both rounds from the young men saw them take second place and an impressive Silver medal each.
Gabriel was next to compete in the individual Men's 13-14 individual Gold trampoline event, and two solid routines saw him qualify to the final in 6th place. A slight improvement in the final routine saw him improve two places to an impressive 4th place finish, just outside the medals.
Next up James Able and Zach Goggin were competing in the Men's 15-16 individual Gold trampoline event. This group was packed full of trampoline superstars, including the current European champion and two further current British team members. After two excellent rounds from both the boys, Zach was in 2nd place and James was in 3rd place going into the finals. An error from Zach cost him his medal and saw him drop to 4th place, but a great routine from James saw him improve to 2nd place and take the silver medal. A fantastic achievement for James.
Last to compete that day was Abhi, this time in the Mens 11-12 individual Gold trampoline event. Again, the competition was packed full of Great Britain team members, but two solid routines saw him finish just outside the finals in 9th place.
We finished the day with two silver medals (well three if you say that our Synchro pair got one each), two 4th places, a 9th and 10th place. I think we can call that a successful competition, so a big congratulations to all our gymnasts.

The club has two competitions left for 2017, the League Finals, which will once again take place at the Velodrome at The Queen Elisabeth Park, London on 2nd & 3rd December and the end of season closer, our very own Club competition, which will take place at Cambridge Regional College on 17th December and we hope to see lots of people take part in that event
