The final round of the NDP season arrived with the Cangaroos journeying up to the Motorpoint Arena, Nottingham. This event is the final round for all members competing in the NDP categories and consists of two routines per gymnast to compete for national titles.
This year we proudly qualified five gymnasts in NDP6 and Performance levels. Syd and Ali qualified through the regional team finals in Birmingham whilst Gabe, James and Zach qualified from the Spring Event Series across the country. They were supported by our coaches Franky, Laura and Tony at the event.
The gymnasts and coaches arrived Saturday evening for orientation in the halls to get used to the space. Routines were looking good as they moved around the halls and the stage was set for an intense final (minus the weird fart noise made by the trampoline legs rubbing against the ice rink covers). As we made our way home for the evening all eyes turned to tomorrow and the challenge ahead.
On Sunday morning it was Syd on first in a really though group. Her form was excellent and she finished both routines safely and narrowly missed out on a medal finishing 4th having to compete against higher difficulty bouncers.
Very soon after her was Ali and he delivered two shaky but safe routines in a group full of crashes also narrowly missed out on medal also taking 4th.
A length wait ensued as Gabe took to the floor. But he held his nerve and delivered two excellent routines to finish second - a truly fantastic effort and a testament to his vigorous hard work and determination this season.
The final group had both Zach and James competing together and they too both delivered but narrowly missed out on medals finishing 4th and 5th. But still a monumental effort from these guys too!
A special mention should also go to Cambridge University's Ryan Hadlow who took 3rd in DMT.
So we left the event with some great results as our presence at nationals grows ever stronger. We hope to see more of you there next year to compete for the top spots in the NDP series.
Our next competition will be the English Championships were we hope to take Birmingham by storm!
