At the Regional Team Final, the 11 Regions in the UK compete against each other to win the National Team trophies in Trampoline, DMT and Tumbling. For each gymnast, they are also competing for medals and to qualify for the National NDP finals. The top 8 in each competition will qualify for the National Finals, which this year will be held in Coventry on 13th & 14th July.
Competing for the East Region from Cambridge Cangaroos were Molly McGregor in the NDP level 4 women’s 11-12 category. With a large field, Molly successfully completed her 2 routines and did extremely well to take 18th place, especially as this was her first national competition at this level.
In the Men’s Disability Trampoline NDP Level 1 Category 1, Alex Radford was competing for Cangaroos for the first time ever at a National competition. He did magnificently to complete both routines and take 3rd place and the bronze medal. Not only does this give Alex his first ever National medal, but he also qualifies for the National finals. In the Women’s Disability Trampoline NDP Level 1 Category 1, Jane Wilkey was also competing for Cangaroos and also at her first ever National competition. Jane went even better than Alex, and with two excellent routines from her saw her take 1st place and the gold medal and qualified for the National Finals.
All three of our gymnasts contributed to a massive effort from the Team East gymnasts who with all the contributions included, took 1st place in the Trampoline Team competition and 3rd place in the DMT Team competition. This means in the 5 years the competition has run, Team East has won the Trampoline Trophy twice and places 2nd and 3rd, demonstrating the skills and quality we continue to develop in the Region.
These magnificent results are testament to the hard work and effort our gymnasts put into their training and we’re delighted that our medallists this time come from our disabled gymnasts. Both Jane and Alex have been members of Cangaroos for a long time, in fact Jane was one of the Clubs founder members and we’re delighted for her success. We look forward now to the NDP National Finals, where Jane and Alex will be competing in their first ever National Finals and hoping to repeat or even improve on their success this weekend and come back National Champions.
