Cambridge Cangaroos travelled north at the weekend to take part in the English Trampoline, Tumbling and DMT finals being held at the English Institute for Sport in Sheffield.
Competing on Saturday in the Silver competition were Lucas Coleman-Denny in the 9-10 year old Boys and Lily Carter in the 11-12 year old Girls. The Gold competition took place on the Sunday and Lilia Kearney was competing in the 15-16 year old Girls.
All our competitors had qualified throughout the season, with the top 16 ranked gymnasts qualifying for this competition. So even before they competed it was a tremendous achievement to reach the finals. Lucas was first to compete and at 8 years old was probably the youngest in his group of gymnasts. A solid routine producing an overall score of 34.040. His second round routine was also strong with an overall score of 37.440, giving a total score of 71.480 and taking 12th place.
Next up was Lily, who had been looked after in the warm-up hall by Pat Dodson, so our thanks go out to him). Lily is still suffering from performance blocks so it was an all forward rotating routine that was competed and under the circumstances, it was a great result just to qualify. Lily produced a good first routine with a total score of 36.500. Her second routine also scored well with an overall score of 41.500. This produced a total score of 78.000 placing her in 15th position.
That ended Cangaroos involvement for the Saturday and we returned to the EIS on Sunday afternoon for the Gold events and Lilia's competition. Lilia produced a high scoring 1st routine with an Execution score of 16.900 and a total score of 39.430. Unfortunately, an error in the 4th skill of her second routine meant that her total score for the routine was 19.700 producing an overall score of 59.130 and placing her in 13th position.
All the coaches are so proud of competitors this year, we have seen some brilliant results across all levels of competition, at Regional and at National events. We have one more competition this season, the Bi-Annual Friendly International competition, the Dave Ward-Hunt Cup, taking place in Gillingham on the weekend of the 5th & 6th November and we wish our gymnasts all the very best for that competition and the close of the National season.
