Four of our gymnasts were part of Team East taking part in the Inter-Regional Challenge Cup Finals. The ten Regional Teams from all over Great Britain are made up of the top two gymnasts who compete at the Regional levels (Levels 1-4) in their age groups in Trampoline, Double-Mini Trampoline and Tumbling. In the 7 years this event has run, Team East has won the Trampoline trophy a record 4 times. This year we were defending champions and were looking to retain our title in Trampoline and improve our standings in DMT.

Cangaroos had two gymnasts in Trampoline: Amelie Hacker, competing in the Women’s Level 4 15-16 age group and Iza Moutrie competing in the Women’s Category 2 disability – Level 2; 9-14 age group. We also had two gymnasts competing in the Double Mini-Trampoline Women’s Level 2, 11-12 age group, Esme Rowlandson and Liannah Le Roy Tickner.

Iza competed on the Saturday and successfully completed 2 routines with a score of 22.30 in Exercise 1 and 24.4 in Exercise 2, giving them a total round score of 46.70 and 7th place. A great result in their second National Final On Sunday, Amelie took to the competition floor and in a large group of 23 gymnasts, she scored 38.20 for her 1st exercise and 43.01 for her 2nd exercise, giving her a total score of 81.21 and 9th place.

Up next on the Double Mini-Tramp were Esme and Liannah, a field of 14 gymnasts took part in the competition. In DMT, each gymnast makes 4 different passes at the equipment and the gymnast is marked on the two skills they perform out of 10.00, plus a difficulty mark for the passes. At this level the 1st two passes are set by the National Governing Body and passes 3 & 4 can be made up by the gymnast and their coaches. After the first two passes, Esme was in 3rd place with a score of 39.90 and Liannah was in 6th place with a score of 39.50. Two improved passes from both girls put Esme up to 2nd place with a total score of 80.20 and with Liannah just 0.1 behind in joint 3rd place on 80.10. Unfortunately, following tie-break rules, Liannah was placed 4th, despite having the same score as the other 3rd placed individual.

That ended the competition for Cangaroos gymnasts, but when all the scores were calculated and the ranking points collated, Team East came 3rd in the Trampoline event and 5th in the DMT event. As always, we have to say a massive thank you to our coaches who have supported our gymnasts throughout the season and at the two events. Sara was supported by her Singapore coach Jess and Cangaroos Head Coach at the British Championships and Nicky was selected as a Team Coach for the Team East contingent and was also there to support our gymnasts.

These two events ended the National season and we prepare now for the start of the 2023/24 Regional season. Due to the Paris Olympics in 2024, the competition dates are all much earlier than non-Olympic years, so we have the first of the Regional qualifiers taking place in Harlow on the 29th October. Good luck to all Cangaroos taking part in that event.
