Cangaroos made the 6 hour trip up north for the 3rd and final qualifier for the National League Finals. 9 Cangaroos Gymnasts were taking part in Trampoline and DMT competitions against gymnasts from all over the country.
Saturday saw our League 3 trampoline gymnasts (and one League 2) take to the competition floor. First up for an early start was Eloise in Flight 1 of the League 3, 11-12 Female in the long day ahead. Eloise was competing at her 2nd League event and after coming 9th in her first competition was hoping to make finals. Two of her best competition routines later Eloise was sitting in 4th place at the end of Flight 1.
Flight 2 saw Freya take to the floor and after a silver in her last League competition we were hopeful of a similar result. Pulling out two excellent routines saw Freya qualify to the 8 person final in 1st place and Eloise did magnificently to qualify in 6th. Eloise performed her best exercise of the day but Freya had a minor error on her out-bounce which cost her a whole mark resulting in 6th place for Freya and an amazing 3rd place and Bronze medal for Eloise.
Liannah was next to compete in the League 3, 13+ Female, two competent routines scored 76.61 and take 16th position out of a field of over 30 gymnasts
Next up was Lily competing in the League 3, 13-14 Female. after just about overcoming her battle with performance blocks had reintroduced a number of backward somersaults into her routine. The new routines paid off and after getting into the final in 5th place, she managed to improve to 3rdplace and take the Bronze medal.
In the 17-18 League 3 Female group, Poppy and Isla were both competing. Isla like Lily had also been experience some performance blocks and unfortunately these resulted in an error in her 1st routine, resulting in a hip injury that ruled her out for the rest of the competition. She was fine afterwards, but a little sore. Meanwhile, Poppy was competing well and after two strong rounds went in the final in 6th place. After a very close event, Poppy ended the day in 7th place. In the 19+ Female League 3 competition, Aleena produced her two best ever competition routines, achieving the final for the 1st time and maintaining that place at the end of the competition.
Last to compete that day was Lucas in the League 2 9-12 age group. Lucas led from the very start, posting his highest scores and beating al-comers in his competition. He finished the day with another 1st place and Gold medal to add to the one he took in Birmingham earlier in the season.
Cangaroos finished the day with 3 medals, 2 Bronze’s and 1 Gold, a great haul from a long day of competition. Sunday bloomed bright and sunny and the Cangaroos team reassembled at the University sports arena for Day 2 of competition.
First to compete in trampoline were Rhiannon and Molly in the League 2 17-18 female competition. Molly did really well in a very high-quality group to reach the finals in 6th position, with her highest ever difficulty tariff, unfortunately a slight error on her 2nd skill in the final saw her drop to 7th place. Meanwhile, Rhiannon didn’t have a great 1st routine, unfortunately just managing to complete 6 skills. Her 2nd routine was a big improvement, also registering her highest ever difficulty tariff in competition and resulting in a reasonable 15th position.
Next up Lilia was competing in League 1 17+ Female and straight after the women’s Super League competition. The former saw Lilia successful complete two routines in competition, which has been difficult this season with the step up in age group and requirements. She managed a credible 11th place in the League 1 competition. In the Super League, there was an increase in quality and again, Lilia completed both routines and saw her take 15th place.
In the DMT competition we saw Liannah take to the competition floor in the League 3 13-14 group and take 5th place, narrowly missing out on the semi-final round (tope 4 competitors). In the League 3 17+ Female competition Aleena and Rhianon competed against 31 other with Aleena registering 25th place and Rhiannon 30th after an error on her 2nd pass.
It was a long drive back to Cambridge for our gymnasts, coaches and officials, nor forgetting the parents, but it had been a successful competition for most of our gymnasts and as always an enjoyable trip away for all. The qualifying season has ended and we congratulate all our gymnasts who have successfully qualified to the national League Finals that will take place on 26th and 27th October in Derby.
The Club would like to thank our coaches, Nicky and Tony and our Judge Jane for supporting the Club and the gymnasts in everything we do. We can’t do it without your continued support.
We have two National finals left for the season, with the English Championships on 19th and 20th October on Telford and the National League Finals later that month and we wish all of our qualified gymnasts all the every best in those competitions. For the rest, we turn to the new 2024/25 season, with Regional competition starting again in November.
