Cangaroos were at our 4th competition in 4 weeks for the English qualifier 1 in Birmingham.
Saturday was for our silver gymnasts and we had 6 gymnasts taking part with Liannah competing in both trampoline and DMT. This was the first time That the new code of points were in force, leading to much tighter judging controls for the inflight skills.
First up was Eloise in the woman's age 12 group, who started the competition at 7.50am (yes you read that right!). With 48 gymnasts in her competition and Pattie in the last flight it was a long wait for the results.
Eloise completed both exercises with a total round score of 75.200, giving her 16th place overall.
Next up was Liannah in the women's 13-14 trampoline competition. Two successful routines led to a total round score of 75.380 and 18th place out of 48 gymnasts.
Pattie competed next in the age 12 women's group and she completed both exercises but was down on her usual high form and recorded a score of 71.330 for her total round score and placed 35th out of 40 gymnasts.
Following lunch Aleena was next to compete in the women's 17+ group. A competent 1st exercise gave her confidence but an error on her 2nd skill ended the exercise. This gave her a total round score and 32nd out of 52 gymnasts in her group.
Liannah was next up in women's 13-14 DMT group, two strong passes saw her progress into the top 8 final, which was especially pleasing as she competed her double pike back somersault for the first time. A good 3rd pass saw her progress to the top 4 final. Unfortunately, she was unable to land the double pike cleanly the 2nd time of asking and she finished the competition in 4th place.
Lily was next to compete in the women's 15-16 group and with two strong exercises fighting a back injury were all delighted with her total score of 80.410 and 5th place out of 33 gymnasts.
Last to compete was Lucas in the men's 11-12 group. Two good exercises saw a total round score of 79.120 and he placed 9 out of 36 gymnasts.
A successful 1st day of competition with 4 of our gymnasts scoring well enough to hopefully secure their qualification to the English finals, with the top 32 in trampoline and top 16 in DMT ranked across the two qualifying competitions we hope that Eloise, Liannah in both trampoline and DMT, Lily and Lucas doing enough with Pattie and Aleena looking towards Qualifier 2.
Sunday brought Freya competing in her first Gold competition in Women's 11-12 and Lilia competing in the Women's Senior event.
Freya was first up and sailed through both routines, scoring well in both exercises and also competed two double somersaults in her 2nd exercise for the first time. She recorded an overall score 76.670 and placed 9th, narrowly missing out on achieving the top 8 final. Also competing in the same age group was Evelyn from Impulse, who also trains with us, she did well to come 10th with a score of 76.350 out of 20 gymnasts.
Lilia successfully completed her 1st exercise, and although under tariff registered a respectable score of 41.820. She was unable to better that score in her 2nd exercise, but the counted score put her in 30th place overall out of 34 gymnasts.
A hugely successful event for Cangaroos and some great qualifying scores that bodes well for the Finals.
