Nine gymnasts travelled to Telford for the second English qualifier of the 2025 National season, all hoping to achieve qualification to the English finals, which take place in Coventry on the weekend of 5th and 6th July.

Qualification is open to the top 32 trampoline gymnasts and top 24 DMT gymnasts, who achieve the minimum qualification requirements in each event.

On Saturday, we had the pleasure of a late start, with our first gymnasts taking to the competition floor at 10:45. Freya was competing in the women's Gold 11-12 event, and Lucas was competing in the men's Gold 11-12 event. Meanwhile, on a separate panel, Aleena was competing in the women's Silver 17+ event.

Freya completed both exercises, recording her highest time of flight score in the 1st exercise and her highest difficulty score in the 2nd exercise. Freya finished the competition in 13th place out of 21 competitors with a total score of 76.190. Congratulations must also go out to Evelyn, who trains with us and competes for Impulse, who scored 79.040 and took 9th place. Both girls should have secured a qualification for the English Finals.

Lucas completed both exercises and managed a very credible 6th place out of 9 gymnasts with a total score of 67.970. Aleena was also competing, and although she had some confidence issues, she completed her first exercise. Unfortunately, there was an error in her second exercise, and it was marked out of 9 skills, resulting in a total of 70.030 and placing her 33rd out of 47 competitors.

Sydney was also competing in the women's Silver 17+ event in the next flight and, after an excellent first exercise, was in a good position to potentially medal. Unfortunately, an error in her second exercise meant that only seven skills were achieved, resulting in a total score of 72.10 and 32nd place.

Our final competitor of the day was Lilia, competing in the women's senior Gold. She completed her 1st exercise but had to make changes, which resulted in a difficulty score below the requirements. Unfortunately, her second exercise only managed to develop one skill, which meant her first scores still counted.

So we had a reasonable first day at the competition and were looking forward to day 2 and our Silver competitors. Day two started early with Liannah competing in the women's DMT 11-12 event. A successful first pass was achieved, despite an error in the landing, which resulted in a penalty. Unfortunately, her second pass only had the first skill counted, as she fell forward off the double back pike. She scored a total of 35.30 and placed 32nd. Thankfully, she had already secured 2nd place in the first qualifier so that those scores will count towards the finals ranking and qualification.

Next up was Pattie in the women's age 12 event, followed by Eloise in the same event but on the next flight. Pattie completed both exercises, scoring 72.320 and placing 28th out of 45. We have to wait and see if she's managed to qualify for the top 32 to advance to the finals. Meanwhile, Eloise also completed both exercises, but with a total score of 75.250, managed to take 11th place and secure her qualification to the Finals.

Liannah was next to compete on the trampoline in the women's 14 age event. A tremendous first exercise was followed by her best-ever time of flight in her second exercise. Still, she unfortunately ended up on the mat in her outbounce, which led to a deduction of 2 marks, recording a total score of 77.30 and 14th place. However, this should have secured her qualification for the finals.

Lily was next to compete in the women's 15-16 age group. A good-quality first exercise helped her position well. With a new exercise comprising three double somersaults and a difficulty tariff of 8.3, she recorded a total score of 79.70. She was placed 5th out of 40 gymnasts—an excellent result, matching her position in the first qualifier, but with more competitors.

Last to compete was Pattie in the DMT women's 11-12 age group. After an excellent first pass, she was in first place across both flights; however, an incorrect skill in the second pass meant she wasn't given a second score and finished in 16th position with a total score of 20.40.

So, Cangaroos comes away from the last of the English qualifiers with a mixed bag of results. We now wait to hear how many of our gymnasts have qualified for the finals, being held in Coventry on the 5th and 6th of July.

We look forward to the final national qualifying event of the season, the National Trampoline and DMT League, which will take place in Cardiff on 28th and 29th June.
