Cangaroos made the long journey north to Sunderland for the first national competition of the 2025 season. We started the season with the National Trampoline and DMT qualifier.
Five gymnasts took part on day 1 of the competition, all competing on the trampoline at League 3 level.
First up on the first flight of the day, Eloise competed in the largest group of the day, the 11-12 League 3 female, with 49 entrants split over four flights. Two excellent routines, scoring 37.71 in her first round and 42.65 for a total qualifying score of 80.36, put her in 1st position in that flight. She held that position until the final flight. In-flight 4, Pattie took to the competition floor and produced two excellent routines, scoring 37.69 in her 1st exercise and 41.94 in her 2nd exercise, catapulting her to the top of the leaderboard with Eloise in 3rd place. This scored Pattie 100 ranking points and Eloise 60 ranking points, both qualifying for the final 8.
The final was very close, with everyone improving on their second-round scores except for Pattie, who, with a score of 42.71, secured 4th place. A huge exercise from Eloise saw her record a Final score of 43.39, taking the Gold medal. Meanwhile, Isla took to the competition floor in the 17-18 League 3 female competition. Isla has been struggling for a while with a performance block but still managed to produce two strong routines consisting of forward rotations only. In round 1, she scored a total of 35.80, and in round 2, she scored 40.65, for a total round score of 76.45, earning her a very credible 11th place out of 28 gymnasts and 18 valuable ranking points.
Next to compete were Aleena and Poppy in the 19+ League 3 Female. In the first flight, Aleena scored 37.40 for her 1st exercise and 41.62 in her 2nd for a total qualifying round score of 79.02 and 2nd place. In Flight 2, Poppy scored the top score with a 1st round score of 38.29 and a 2nd round score of 42.82, a total qualifying score of 81.11. This put Poppy first in the finals and 100 ranking points. Aleena was in 5th place, also securing 40 ranking points. An unfortunate error for Aleena saw an end to the routine on move 6th, placing her 8th overall with a Final score of 25.79. Poppy improved on her 2nd round score in the Final with a score of 43.18, which put her in 2nd place and the silver medal.
We ended day 1 with four finalists, a gold and silver medal, and all our gymnasts securing valuable League ranking points. These points are needed to qualify for the League Finals later in the year, with the top 24 gymnasts qualifying for those finals.
Day 2 opened early, and again, five gymnasts competed in trampoline and DMT.
First, we had Pattie competing in the DMT 11-12 League 3 female competition. With 46 gymnasts in the competition, there were three flights to get through before we confirmed Patties’ qualification score of 40.80 and 1st place. This earned her another 100 ranking points, giving her an unprecedented ranking score of 200 for the weekend’s competition. Pattie competed in the top 8 final and scored 20.00 to place 5th, just missing out on the Final four.
Meanwhile, Lilia took to the competition floor to compete in the 17-21 League 1 female. After a minor concern over the 1st exercise requirements, Lilia scored 37.98 and then completed her 2nd exercise. Unfortunately, she hit the mat on her out-bounce, resulting in an exercise score of 42.23 and a total round score of 80.21. 11th place overall and 18 ranking points.
Former Cangaroos gymnast Josh competed in Men’s League 1, securing third place. He then competed in the Super League, where he placed fifth and qualified for the Super Cup. Two clear rounds led him to the semi-final, where he lost out to the eventual winner.
Next to compete was Aleena in the 17+ League 3 Female DMT. Two successful passes led to a total round score of 38.70 and 19th place, scoring six valuable ranking points.
Freya competed next in the League 1 Female, 9-12 group. This was Freya’s first time competing at the highest level. After the first two qualifying exercises, Freya was in an impressive 2nd place going into the zero-based final, scoring 75 ranking points with a total round score of 80.60. In the final, everyone stepped up their game, and Freya did well to secure 5th place.
Our final competitor of the day was Lily, competing in the League 2 female 15-16 group. Lily also produced two high-quality qualifying exercises, earning a total score of 81.32 and 4th place, earning 50 ranking points. A minor error in her Final exercise led to a 6th-place finish.
This concluded an amazing first national competition of the season, with every gymnast scoring valuable ranking points and some unprecedented results like Patties perfect score of 200 ranking points across Trampoline and DMT. As always, the Club would like to thank our officials and coaches who gave up their time to support the Club and the gymnasts. Thank you to Jane, Nicola, and Tony.
We look forward to the Regional Finals, where we hope to secure many medals and qualifications to represent Team East at the Inter-Regional Challenge Cup Finals.
