Living Sports Awards

Living Sports Awards 2009

Date: Thursday 12th November 2009 at Mariot Hotel Huntingdon

Neil Pike, Kathy Fullerton from the committee, Emily Copeland and husband Tom representing the coaches and Head Coach, Tony Fagelman and wife Pia all attended the Living Sports Awards evening. Braving torrential rain, we made our way to the Marriott Hotel, Huntingdon for an evening of fine food, drink, awards and an after dinner speech by Rory Underwood, the former England Rugby Union world cup winning player.

The club had been nominated for Community Club of the Year, and Tony had been nominated for Coach of the Year.

We were on the table with a group of Triathletes, who certainly humbled us in their activities and their success.

The starter and main course were served, and we had our first Christmas meal of the season, with a lovely roast turkey.

When it came to the awards, Tony was up against nominees from gymnastics, diving, Judo, canoeing, squash, swimming. football, boxing and triathlon. All in all, there were 11 nominees. A big build up followed with Tony being announced as Runner-Up, to Sam Buck, Head Coach at Cambridge Diving Club, and a former trampoline coach student of Tony'. So some nice synergy there.

So the evening had started well. More awards followed and before the dessert, the Community Club of the Year awards was announced. In this category there were 16 nominees, so a massive field including Huntingdon Olympic Gymnastic Club, and we were absolutely delighted to be named as the Community Club of the Year. We received a very smart trophy, which is on display at Sawston and we have been put forward into the Eastern Regional Awards, where we will be up against clubs from all over the East of England.

The committee would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has made the club what it is and enabled us to achieve this award.
