Date: Saturday 23rd February 2013 at Sawston
Over 80 people filled the Marven Centre at Sawston Village College to celebrate the annual awards given out by Cambridge Cangaroos Trampoline Club to its deserving members. The awards evening included a fish and chips supper and disco, with the high-light being the awards to our members.
To begin with the club was treated to a highlight video of the past few years produced by Ali who unfotunately could not make the evening. Once the chuckles and laughs had died down and the food settled the awards were then delivered...
There are four awards presented that are based on the results of the Club Competition, held last December at Sawston Sports Centre. The winners were:
These awards marked the start of a very successful evening for both Mila and Andrew.
Next up were the awards to ‘the most improved member’ at each of our centres. This award does not just recognise competition achievement, but also; proficiency award achievement, attitude, determination and support. In each category, there are awards for ‘Honourable Mentions’ and the champion. The ‘honourable mentions’ are made to those members who have achieved in all areas, but were not selected as the 2012 champion. The awards are agreed by the coaches at each centre, based on all the members attending sessions at those centres. Where a member attends sessions at multiple centres, the coaches agreed on which centre to apply them towards.
The club committee presents the Volunteer of the Year award to the person that they think has done the most to support the efforts of the club for no reward.
Volunteer of the Year: Ali MacraeThe club’s most prestigious award is the Cangaroo of the Year. This is presented to the member who has done the most to support the club in the last year This could be in a wide variety of ways, such as volunteering as competition officials, competing, undertaking committee roles, coaching, mentoring. Club members are encouraged to nominate members for the position and a short-listed is drawn up from those nominations. This year there were three outstanding candidates, all three could have won the award, but there was one clear winner, chosen by all those who voted.
So Andrew and Mila walked off with two awards and everyone received rapturous applause. Simon Burson thanked Kim Pearson for organising this year’s event and for all the help she gives to the committee and to Simon, and she walked off with a lovely bouquet of flowers. Simon also took time out to thank Tony Fagelman for all the work and effort that he puts in as head coach, which in 2012 saw rewards in our best ever competition performances. Following the awards the club raffle and tombola were held and thanks go to all who donated gifts including Cinderella’s Gown and Beauty Salon and Gymaid, plus lots of others.
The party then followed, with dancing to both recent club tunes and classic disco numbers. The Fagelman clan joined in to show everyone the way it should be done, but were joined quickly by Lizz Andrews to show the youngsters just how to have fun on a dance floor. It was great to see everyone having huge fun and really enjoying the evening. Our thanks go out to everyone who worked hard to make this a fabulous event. Roll on 2013 and another great year for the club.
