A farewell to Alex

A farewell to Alex

Date: Wednesday 29th March 2023 at Whittlesford

Alex has informed us that after many years at Cangaroos he is sadly leaving the club. For those of you who do not know Alex, he has been a member of Cangaroos for over 15 years and is one of our longest serving members. Alex is also one of our disabled gymnasts, but has always taken a place in our standard sessions.

Alex first joined the Club when we had sessions at CRC and was coached in those early days by Laura and Luis. A keen bouncer, he always wanted to compete and entered the Regional competitions as soon as he was able to compete, always doing well and inevitably coming away with a medal.

Eleven years ago, Alex suffered an injury that put him out of the sport for over a year. However, he was determined to return and he did so successfully. So successfully, that not only did he win the Regional Championships, he progressed through the National Team Finals and took the Bronze medal in the Cat 2 Reg 1 grade. He was also a member of the Regional team that won the Overall trampoline competition that year.

However, for me, his crowning achievement was the successful competing of the front somersault in the Reg 1 routine in January's Regional qualification. His delight at landing the somersault was by far the best thing I have seen in a long time and it had the crowd applauding his success.

Alex's courage, tenacity and fortitude helped him return to the sport he loved after his first accident and has kept him going these last 10 years. His love of the sport is infections and he has always been a joy to coach and be around. We will miss his successes and enjoyment of the sport we all love.

We wish you all the very best for the future Alex!
