On 29th October 2-24, 22 Trampoline gymnasts and 3 DMT gymnasts attended the first of the Regional qualifying competitions for the 2024 Regional season, culminating in the 2024 Regional Finals in Cambridge in April and then the Inter-Regional Challenge Cup, where the top qualifiers from the Regional Final represent Team East and compete for medals and ranking in Great Britain.
As always, Cangaroos team is supported by a host of volunteer coaches and officials, and our thanks go out to Ali, Franky, Nicky, Nicola, Josh, Josie, Jo, Dan and Head Coach, Tony for their support through the day. Without these volunteers, the Club could not compete, for this we are always grateful.
First up in the day was Iza, competing in the TPD Reg 2 Cat 2 - Women 15+, Iza was competing their hardest exercise so far, so we are all extremely thrilled when they successfully completed both exercises and took 1st place and the Gold medal, with a total score of 49.75 and successful qualification to the Regional Finals.
Next to compete was Gracie Gray, competing in her first ever trampoline competition, she took part in the Club 1 - Women 9-10, an unfortunate error in the 1st exercise led to only 6 skills being counted, but an excellent recovery saw her reach 4th place with a total score of 35.10.
Ellis Mae Le Roy-Tickner was next to compete in the Club 1 - Women 9-10, executing two successful routines, and scoring a perfect 10 for HD in her 1st exercise. A total round score of 47.65 gave her 5th place and qualification to the Regional Finals.
Following on from Ellis Mae was Matilda Enright, competing in the Club 2 - Women 11-12. Executing two quality routines, with both scoring perfect 10’s for HD, Matilda had a total round score of 50.80 and took second place and the Silver medal.
Competing straight after her sister was Eliza Enright, competing in the Club 2 - Women 9-10. Also executing two god routines, Eliza scored 50.15 and also took second place and the Silver medal. With both Enright sisters also qualifying for the Regional Finals.
Next to compete was Ellie Farrant, competing in the Club 3 - Women 11-12. Ellie was taking part in her first trampoline competition and successfully completed both exercises, also scoring perfect 10’s in both routines for HD. A final score of 49.10 saw her secure 10th place in one of the biggest groups of the day and qualification for the Regional Finals. Next up was Sammie Knight competing in the Club 3 - Women 13-14. After a well-executed first routine, Sammie was well positioned, but an unfortunate error in her second routine saw her complete only 5 skills and a total round score of 37.30, gaining her 12th place overall.
Over on panel 3 we had four gymnasts competing in the Level 1 - Women 11-12, in the largest group of the day. Taking 10th place with a total round score of 70.71 was Eloise Symmons, in 16th place was Pattie Dobbyne with a total round score of 68.20. In 22nd place was Cora McGregor with a round score of 65.19 and in 24th place was Isla Roberts with a round score of 65.19. All four girls successfully completed both exercises and all qualified for the Regional Finals. We were hopeful of the team Gold and the girls were in first place, right up until the last 5 exercises, but were pipped at the post and they had to settle for a hard fought second place Team Silver.
In the Level 2 - Women 15+, Poppy Budd and Isla Cowling were both competing for us. Poppy executed two good routines, with a total round score of 54.05, securing 4th place and narrowly missing out on the Bronze medal. Isla did really well to complete both exercises having struggled with performance blocks in the run-up to the competition. Everyone in the Club was delighted with her performance as she scored 50.75 and took 17th place. Both ladies successfully qualified for the Regional Finals.
Competing in the Level 3 - Women 11-12 were Esme Rowlandson and Freya Carter. Both girls executed excellent routines, with Esme pipping Freya to 1st place and the Gold medal with a total score of 78.54. Frey took second place and the silver medal with a round score of 77.52. Both girls qualified for the Regional Finals.
Competing in the Level 3 - Men 11-12, Lucas Coleman-Denny successfully completed his two routines, scoring a total of 76.6 and took first place and the Gold Medal, also successfully qualifying for the Regional Finals.
Sydney Kelly was competing in the Level 3 - Women 15+ category and with two high quality routines successfully completed, Sydney came away with a well deserved first place and the Gold medal with a total score of 83.80 In the Level 4 - Women 17+, Molly McGregor and Rhiannon Monie were competing. Two good routines from Molly including the first time she has competed a double somersault in her exercise, saw her register a total score of 81.37 and in a very competitive competition took third place and the Bronze medal. Unfortunately, after training well all week, an error in both exercises, saw Rhiannon score a total of 54.36 and take 6th place. Molly successfully qualifies for the Reginal Finals, but Rhiannon will have to wait until February for another chance at qualifying.
Lilly Carter was competing in the Level 4 - Women 11-12, still trying to overcome her performance blocks, we were all delighted to see Lily successfully complete both exercises and score 78.46 and take second place and the silver medal. Lily also qualifies for the Regional Final.
Last to compete, after waiting most of the day was Boaz Grabiner, competing in the Level 1 - Men 11-12. Two successfully executed routines were completed and Boaz recorded a total score of 64.26 and took 8th place, he also successfully qualified for the Regional Finals.
Over on DMT, first to compete in the Club 1 - Women 9-10 was Ellis Mae Le Roy-Tickner, competing in her first ever DMT competition, 3 good passes, with a minor error on her 4th led to a second place finish and the silver medal with a total round score of 70.60.
Next up was Esme Rowlandson, competing in the Level 2 - Women 11-12. Four excellent passes resulted in a total round score of 81.40, first place and the Gold Medal, plus qualification to the Regional Finals.
Finally, Sydney Kelly was competing in the Level 2 - Women 13+. Three successful passes were completed, but an unfortunate error on her 3rd pass, meant a lower score, however, a round score of 78.20 was still enough to earn Sydney second place and the silver medal.
Cangaroos finished the day with 5 individual Gold medals, 6 individual Silver medals and 1 Bronze Medal, along with 20 qualifiers to the Regional Team finals. We also came away with a Silver Team medal. For our Level 1 women’s team in 11-12age group.
We look forward now to the Club Competition on January 28th at the Centre, and we encourage all our members to learn their routines and take part in what is always a hugely fun event. The next Regional Qualifier takes place on 11th February 2024 in Colchester.
