On 11th February 2024, 24 Trampoline gymnasts and 7 DMT gymnasts attended the second Regional qualifying competitions for the 2024 Regional season, this will culminate in the 2024 Regional Finals in Cambridge in April and then the Inter-Regional Challenge Cup, where the top qualifiers from the 10 Regional Finals throughout the UK represent their Region and compete for medals and ranking in Great Britain. Cangaroos was delighted to return with 13 individual medals and 2 Team Gold medals, our best results for some time. Congratulations go out to all our medallists.
As always, the Cangaroos team is supported by a host of volunteer coaches and officials, and our thanks go out to Franky, Nicky, Mark, Jo, Josie, Carol, Nicola, Rhiannon, Molly, Poppy, Isla, Lucas and Head Coach, Tony for their support through the day. Without these volunteers, the Club could not compete, for this we are always grateful.
Trampoline Results
It was a long day and we started off with the disability gymnasts. Iza was competing in the Women’s 15+ Reg 1 Cat 2 category, this is for gymnasts with neurodiverse conditions, competing at the higher Regional level. Iza secured their place in the Regional Finals with a total score of 49.10 and 1st place.
In the Women’s 9-10 Club 2 event, Eliza Enright successfully secured her place in the Regional Finals with a total score of 49.40 and 5th place. Her sister improved on her silver in the first qualifier in the Women’s 11-12 Club 2 event by taking first place and with a total score of 49.35, also securing her Regional Final qualification.
In the Women’s 11-12 Club 3 event, Ellie Farrant unfortunately had an error in her second routine, which resulted in a total score of 38.65 and 12th place. Unfortunately, although this was not sufficient to secure her Regional Finals qualification at this event, her previous scores from the first event in Harlow, were sufficient and Ellie has successfully qualified to the Regional Finals.
In the Women’s 13-14 Club 3 event, Sammie Knight successfully qualified to the Regional Finals, after an unsuccessful attempt in the first qualifier. Sammie came 8th in a large competition with a total score of 48.75 In the Women’s 15+ Club 3 event, Quinne Little took an excellent 2nd place and the silver medal with a total score of 49.85, also securing her qualification to the Regional Finals.
Moving now into the Regional Levels, all of our gymnasts successfully qualified for the Regional Finals. It should be noted that in the Regional Level 1-4 events, Time of Flight scores are also recorded, hence the greater scores over the Club event scores.
Boaz Grabiner, competing in the Men’s 11-12 Level 1 event took 5th place with a total score of 71.36. In the Women’s 11-12 Level 1 event, we had a team of 4 gymnasts, in the largest field of the day with almost 50 competitors. Cangaroos gymnasts ranked as follows; in 26th place with a total score of 61.97 was Cora McGregor, in 21st place with a total score of 68.10 was Pattie Dobbyne, in 17th place with a total score of 68.91 was Isla Roberts and in 7th place, with a total score 73.20 was Eloise Symons. The Team took 4th place overall in a very strong competition.
In the Women’s 13-14 Level 2 event, Liannah Le Roy-Tickner took 5th place with a total score of 75.91.
In the Women’s 15+ Level 2 event, Isla Cowling came 9th with a total score of 77.82 and Poppy Budd was just behind in 11th place with a total score of 77.10.
In the Men’s 11-12 Level 3 event, Lucas Coleman-Denny top scored, taking 1st place and the gold medal with a total score of 78.24. And not to be outdone in the Women’s 11-12 Level 3 event, Freya Carter also took 1st place and the Gold medal with a total score of 77.53.
Cangaroos were delighted to field a team in the Women’s 15+ Level 3 event, who were narrowly beaten into 2nd place with their combined scores in the 2nd largest event of the day. The team consisted of Sydney Kelly, top scoring for Cangaroos in 4th place with a total score of 82.54, Nicola Bannister, placing 15th with a total score of 78.41 and Aleena Allen who placed 25th with a total score of 74.67.
In the Women’s 13-14 Level 4 event, Lily carter was narrowly beaten into 2nd place and the silver medal with a total score of 77.59.
In the Women’s 17+ Level 4 event, Cangaroos fielded our 3rd team of the day. Taking 2nd place and the silver medal was Lilia Kearney with a total score of 84.00, in 4th place with a total score of 81.69 was Rhiannon Monie, who also successfully qualified for the Regional Finals after disappointment in the 1st qualifier. In 7th place with a total score of 81.18 was Molly McGregor. Their combined scores also secured Team Gold for the ladies.
DMT Results
While the Trampoline competition was on-going, 7 of our gymnasts were also competing in the Double Mini-Tramp competition. For most of these gymnasts this was their first Regional competition, so we were delighted when the majority of them qualified for the Regional Finals.
In the Men’s 11-12 Club 1 event, Max Dobbyne managed to take 1st place and the gold medal with a total score of 71.30, despite a fall in his 3rd pass. Unfortunately, that meant he did not make the Finals, but he was happy with his medal in his first Regional event.
In the Women’s 9-10 Club 1 event Ellis-May Le Roy-Tickner successfully completed all 4 passes with a total score of 73.40, securing 1st place and the Gold medal, and her successful qualification to the Regional Finals, In the Women’s 11-12 Club 2 event, Cangaroos was delighted to field a team of three gymnasts who successfully took Team Gold. With Eloise Symons taking 1st place and the Gold medal with a total score of 76.00, Pattie Dobbyne took 2nd place and the Silver medal with a total score of 75.40 and Isla Roberts took 3rd place and the Bronze medal with a total score of 74.10. Unfortunately an error on Isla’s 1st pass meant an incomplete pass was recorded, which meant she didn’t qualify for Regional Finals.
In the Women’s 13+ Level 2 event Liannah le Roy took 3rd place and the Bronze medal with a total score of 80.00 and just behind in 4th place with a total score of 79.80 was Sydney Kelly, both securing their qualifications to the Regional Finals.
The Club now looks forward to the first of the National competitions, with Lilia Kearney taking part in the National School Finals in Birmingham on 16th March and the first qualification event of the National Trampoline and DMT League , with 11 gymnasts taking part in Birmingham on March 23rd & 24th. We wish all our gymnasts the very best for both competitions.
