Seventeen Gymnasts from Cambridge Cangaroos Trampoline Club took part in the third and final qualifier of the NDP Trampoline season on 17th February 2019 at Brentwood Grammar School. In the previous two events, all Cangaroos managed to qualify for the Regional Semi-Finals, due to be held in Hatfield on 17th March 2019 and we were hopeful our remaining gymnasts would all qualify as well.
Our first competitor of the day was Jane Wilkey, who was taking part in the Trampoline Special Needs category 1. Two successful routines saw Jane not only achieve the qualifying score for the Regional Semi-Finals, she also took 1st place and the Gold medal. Great start to the day for her and for Cangaroos. With that performance she also has the club joint-6th record for HD score - a fantastic performance.
Next up was Ella Garrard, Ella had already qualified at Level 1 earlier in the season, and having worked incredibly hard, had decided to go up a level and try her chances at the more difficult women's Level 2 13+ age group. Two successful routines completed and a 12th place finish saw her easily achieve the qualifying score for the Regional semi-finals. Poppy Budd was next to compete at women's Level 3 13+ and again, Poppy successfully completed her routines and finished in 9th place and successfully qualified for the Regional semi-finals.
Then our team of ladies in the Level 1 13+ category took to the trampolines. All 3 successfully completed both routines and all three qualified for the Regional semi-finals. Annie France, took 18th position, Millie Brown was 21st and the just-about-on-time Ellie Beazerdimond was 25th. A great success for all three ladies.
In the women's Level 4 13+ competition, Chloe Rollins performed two quality routines to finish in 10th position and Anya Snook finished just outside the medals in 4th place with both ladies successfully qualifying for the Regional semi-finals.
Next up was Felicity Lawrence who was competing in the women’s Level 5 15+ competition. Felicity made a small error in her 2nd routine on her last skill, but still managed to take 3rd place and the Bronze medal.
In the Club 3 men’s 11-12 competition, Stuart Holland took 3rd place following a small error on his last skill and Cameron Spence produced two excellent routines to take 1st place and the Gold medal in the Men’s Club 3 13+ event. Macy Dexter was next to perform in the women's 11-14 Level 6 competition, and after experiencing some issues last season was delighted to successfully complete both routines and take 2nd place and the Silver Medal as well as successfully qualifying for the Regional semi-finals.
In the women's 15+ Level 6, Sydney Kelly marginally lost out on 1st place by just 0.1 marks to take 2nd place and the silver medal, also successfully qualifying for the Regional semi-finals.
Isla Cowling was competing next in the women's 11-12 Level 2 competition and two successful routines saw her just miss out on the medal spots, taking 4th place and successfully qualifying for the Regional semi-finals.
In the Men's Level 6 15+ competition, Alasdair Macrae made his presence known breaking two trampoline springs in his warm ups. He narrowly missed out on 1st place, taking a well deserved 2nd place and the Silver Medal and also confirming his qualification for the Regional Semi-finals.
In the Men's level 4 13+ we were delighted that Henry Ashton overcame his nerves to not only achieve qualification for the Regional semi-finals, by completing both his routines, he also managed 3rd place and the Bronze medal.
Our final competitor of the day was Benjamin Spence who was competing in the Men’s Level 2 11-12 years competition. Another successful Cangaroos medal, was earned when he took 2nd place and the silver medal as we as successfully qualifying for the Regional semi-finals.
The club was delighted that 15 of our gymnasts achieved the qualifying scores for the Regional Finals and they join those gymnasts who have already qualified for the Regional Semi-Final competition. We're equally delighted with 9 medals for our gymnasts, our best medal haul in ages. Well done everyone who took part, we hope you achieved your personal goals and if not, we look forward to next time to help you get there.
As usual we want to thank all our officials (Jane, Neil and Ali), coaches (Tony, Franky and Sam) and our volunteer parents who gave up their time to support the gymnasts, without their help and cooperation we couldn't run the club nor enter competitions.
We now look forward to the Regional Semi-finals that will take place on March 17th in Hatfield. The top 2 in each age grade and level will earn qualification for the Regional Team Finals, the 1st National event of the year, which will take place in June in Birmingham. We wish all our Cangaroos the best of luck for these events.
